Frequently Asked Questions

What is organic and fair trade coffee?

We are proud to offer ONLY specialty coffee, which has been ethically sourced. While most of our coffee beans are certified organic and fair trade, any coffees that are not labeled as such are sourced ethically from farms that use organic farming practices and provide farmers with a living wage. Why some and not others? To certify organic throughout the supply chain is costly for both farmers and the roasters. Struggling or smaller lots from smaller farms cannot afford this certification at origin, which is the main reason some coffees are not certified organic at the roastery. We work closely with our green bean suppliers to ensure a transparent supply chain from farm to cup for the best quality product. It really makes a big difference, both in the taste of your coffee and in the lives of our beloved coffee farmers!

What are the different types of grinds for coffee?

Great question! Check out our Coffee Grind Chart below:

  • Whole bean – Ideal to keep beans as fresh and aromatic as possible & grind at home as needed.
  • Espresso – Suitable for at-home espresso machines or Turkish coffee.
  • Fine – Suitable for a regular automatic coffee maker with paper filter.
  • Perk- Suitable for a pour-over like our Hario Dripper, Chemex, or refillable pods and brewer options.
  • Coarse – Suitable for a French press, Percolators or for coffee cupping session.

*We recommend purchasing a burr grinder to grind your beans at home. Most brewers, especially espresso machines, each require a specific grind type. Minor grind adjustments can really affect the extraction & overall taste of the coffee. In the event you do not have a grinder at home, we do offer a few grind options for your order. *
